Sears & Kmart Footwear

Sears & Kmart Footwear operated as a national-scale, $1B+ footwear platform serving the full family across value, utility, work, and fashion categories. With approximately 3,000 square feet per store across nearly 3,000 locations, the business represented nearly 5.9 million square feet of retail space. The dual-brand footprint combined Sears’ mall-based reach with Kmart’s high-volume value retail presence, creating unusual scale across multiple consumer segments and price points. Jonah led this work as Vice President, Sears Holdings.

Tension.

A $1B+ footwear operation spanning nearly 6 million square feet was inside a company in contraction. How do you keep a massive business relevant when the enterprise is shrinking around you?

Action.

Relentlessly launched new products and brands, killed what wasn’t working fast, optimized margin along the way — making the division one of the company’s strongest performers despite broader decline.

Clarity.

Survival in a declining environment isn’t about playing defense. It’s creativity plus operationalization — the willingness to keep building new things while running the machine with discipline.
