Ultimate Ears brought professional-grade audio and custom-fit comfort to a wide consumer audience. With UE CSX, the brand extended its custom in-ear monitor expertise — once largely reserved for touring musicians — by using digital ear scanning, 3D modeling, and 3D printing to create personalized earphones without the traditional, time-consuming ear-impression process.
With UE FITS, Ultimate Ears pushed that idea further: light-activated molding technology allowed consumers to create a custom fit themselves, at home, in minutes. UE FITS revolutionized earphones with custom fit no longer taking 16 days to fabricate, but 60 seconds to mold to the user’s precise ear shape. Jonah led this work as General Manager of Ultimate Ears Earphones.
Tension.
10% of humans don’t fit traditional earphones — ear pain, poor seal, constant adjustment. Custom fit existed, but only for touring musicians. Why should only touring stage musicians have this solution?
Action.
Compressed a 16-day custom process into 60 seconds — first digital ear scanning and 3D printing, then at-home lightform molding — making personalized audio a consumer product.
